Technically the Quantum Air range of water heaters are heat pump systems. Refrigerant runs through the air-conditioning coil (evaporator) and because the refrigerant is colder than air, it collects heat energy from the air passing through the coil. No refrigeration work required on site, the Air can be plugged into a power point on delivery.

Geothermal air-conditioners use the same technology as the very common fan coil air-conditioners. The big difference is fan coil air-conditioners use the air around them and blow it over a fan coil where as geothermal air-conditioners use ground temperature. Air temperatures vary significantly where as ground temperatures are fairly constant and are close to what you may desire your room temperature to be.
